Crazy week, but Daddy's Home!

This last week Dallas was out on the water kayaking (45 miles over the course of the week). The boys and I had a decent week on our own. Some moments were really sweet and then the next I'm wanting to pull my hair out and going nuts. I'm having a really hard time these days distinguishing between the moments that I need to correct Joss' behavior and the behavior that I need to let slide. Somethings I know very clearly when I need to make my point, but there's some things that just prove how stubborn he and I both are.
You'll notice in this picture above Joss is giving Emit "the look" just waiting for him to knock all his animals over so he can knock Emit over. That's one of the behaviors I know to correct now so it doesn't get out of control. Emit of course wants to be all in Joss' face and doing anything he is. If you've ever seen the scene from Lilo and Stitch when Stitch is stomping through his little city he built and destroying everything in his path... well, that's how Emit "plays" with Joss and the toys he's playing with. I don't want Joss to always hear us correcting him and never Emit (even though I understand that Emit doesn't quite grasp things yet), so I try to tell Emit things like, "No, that's Joss' toy right now, you can play with this" or something along those lines so Joss doesn't think that Emit gets away with anything he wants...it's a constant balancing act, and many times I feel like I've fallen into the safety net below and climbing my way back up, but I'll keep trying!

Emit has gotten in on the dancing with Joss a lot lately. He gets exciting and starts flapping his little arms. Check out Joss' BIG Star on his belly too :)  My little dancing machines these days...
Emit has become quite the little eater these days. I'm having a hard time keeping him happy with food. I can only imagine how hard it's going to be when they are teenagers (YIKE$). If I'm in the kitchen... he's under my feet like a little dog grunting at me until I give him something yummy. He honestly eats more solid food than Joss does. How he's still only 15lbs is beyond me.
Of course, what goes in must come out..."ew, yuck, pooh!" Dallas' family calls going #2 in the ocean making Brown Fish. I'll never understand the fascination men have with "making brown fish" (in or out of the ocean), but they do! These days I feel like I'm on brown fish duty all day long. And these little guys do not  cooperate when it comes to diaper changes. They are so strong too. I had Emit pinned down with one leg the other day so I could change him without getting stuff EVERYWHERE. It's never fun to hear Joss say "Got a stinky on" as he goes running in to his room and climbs up on his changing table! YAY! Still no potty training happening here yet. When we ask him if he's ready he just says, "No, not yet!" When you're ready, sweet boy, when you're ready.

While Dallas was out, I wanted to surprise him to a room all to ourselves when he came home, so I took the leap and made the move with the boys. For various reasons we have still had Emit's crib in our room. Until this past week that is. Now they are room buddies (and will be for a while since we only have a two bedroom place). They have both done FANTASTIC with the adjustment. Joss pretty much just sleeps through Emit's little wake ups. One of the first mornings that I had them sharing a room Emit woke up around 4:45am and I went in and got him and took him back to bed with me. When Joss woke up I heard "Where's Emit? Emit, where are you? Hey, Where's Emit?" So, I don't take Emit out anymore :) I just feed him and put him back so we don't upset Joss.
I just love how Emit sits on his feet like this...
Yes, I know he's chewing on a wrapper, but I took it out of his mouth right after this picture. Joss loves to see Emit walking these days. Below he wanted to hold Emit's hand and take him to play with his train. See, these are the sweet moments I was talking about.
We were watching the sermon on LifeChurch this morning. They are doing a Summer at the Movies series which they do every summer and they did one with the movie Up. It was talking about how living our lives to the fullest doesn't mean we get everything we want and dream about, but living each moment to the fullest.
They were also talking about how a lot of times we live in the "When we get to this point...Then we'll...." kind of mentality. I think I have lived a lot of my life doing this "when I graduate high school, then..." "when I get married, then..." "when I have kids, then..." and I honestly think that right now I am living IN the moment and really enjoying it. I love being a mom. The good days and the not so good days. It's a dream come true for me to be able to work from home (much less own our own business) and spend my days working with and providing for my family. Dallas and I are so happy with our "everyday lives" right now and feel so blessed. Of course we still have things we are striving for and aiming for, but I believe we are living in the moment pretty well right now.
The boys were so excited to have daddy back home yesterday. Joss wouldn't hardly let him out of his sight. When he woke up and I told him that we get to pick Daddy up today, his response was "Show Daddy trains!" And that was his goal the whole day :) When we first picked him up we met them at a ramp to get the kayaks and Joss was running around finding rocks to show to Daddy. He had to show him something :)

Dallas was pretty happy to be off the water too. Their last couple days of the trip the wind was really strong and Dallas had to tow one of the women on the trip for the last 30 miles of the trip. So he was working HARD this week. He earned an hour long massage on Bessie (I get mine tonight for my work)!

The last thing for this post... my favorite time of day right now is Story Time. It's not because "Yay, the boys are going to bed and I get some time to work", it's because this is when they are usually in their snuggly moods and want to be held and snuggled while we get to read to them.
It's been interesting this week with them sleeping in the same room. Most nights it has looked something like this (except with me in the chair instead). There's just something about holding both your kids at once that is so sweet and comforting.

Glad you have Dallas back with you...
Pick your battles and do not be so hard on yourself or the boys ;0)

Your boys are so cute! Looks like you guys are having a fun time out there in the Bahamas!

I know what you mean when you say it is hard to know when to discipline, and when to just let it go. My girls fight over toys all day long and have resorted to pushing and hitting. Sometimes I let them duke it out, and other times I interfere.

I love that first picture, it might as well have a boxing announcer saying "In this corner is Joss, and in this corner we have Emit".

Glad you guys are doing well.
