Day 2 of The National Family Island Regatta 2013 had us all hooked on the races I believe. We had never experienced them with these seats before and it gives them a whole new feel :)
We knew it would help to keep the boys a little more 'relaxed' in the boat during the race if we could get them out on the beach for a bit to run and play.
I always love my sweet love notes in the sand (above)--- {heart} MOM {heart}---what's not to love?
This was one of the first A Class races I believe (which are the biggest sloops in the Regatta).
The larger the class, usually the more boat traffic.
We even saw our neighbors out there :)
LOVE our small island!
LOVE our small island!
It is so fun to see all the different spectators enjoying the fun. We see a lot of these little dinghies from the sailboats anchored in the harbor.
It takes no time at all for the race to feel crowded and busy with these boats get their sails up and get going. They tower above the boats.
On the boat Dallas was on, there are usually 4-5 guys on the team. These A Class sloops have around 15 during their race.
As you can imagine, it takes a lot more cooperation with everyone when you're dealing with that many. This boat below, Running Tide, is always a big competitor from what I've seen the last few years. I believe this one is from Long Island or Staniel Cay...I get them mixed up still. And I don't have Dallas here to ask as my "cheat sheet".
This was Chris & Anita's final day in Exuma, their flight back to the UK left the following evening.
We were enjoying our last bit of time with them. And Emit was totally eating up the snuggles Chris was giving him here :) See, the wearing them out at the beach thing works like a charm.
Emit confiscated my hat. What is it exactly about a sleeping child that is so completely adorable?
Our local millionaire joined us for dinner again this evening. Elliott, when you gonna get the Family Plane to pilot these islands??? :)
We headed over to St Francis Resort & Marina for dinner.
This place has become our 'unofficial' Regatta Restaurant. When we want to eat-out while the races are going on (or just finished) we head over here instead of Chat-n-Chill, which is guaranteed to be full of folks.
We were heading back and gave someone a lift back to the docks so we got to catch a glimpse of some of the sculling competition. I never realized how many other little competitions and races they had outside of the main races.
On a sad note for our regatta this year, this was the day just after a couple from Canada was killed in a car accident. They were walking on the side of the road late in the evening and there was a hit and run. Heartbreaking to hear of stuff like this. Our prayers have been with this family.
When you get too bored, you can always play Squeeze In The Cooler. This is one time that I'm glad our coolers aren't top notch. We don't let them close the lids, but the fact that I KNOW it leaks air and has holes is comforting during this game. They are not allowed to play this in our Yeti cooler!
We saw some gorgeous sunset clouds and colors on our short ride around to our beach. Since the regatta events all take place right next to the dock where we leave our boat most of the time, we bring it around to our beach during the week so that we don't have to fight the crowds every time we want to go out on it, and also so we don't have to worry about what may or may not be happening to it.
Another favorite game on the boat is Wave Hopping. Jump just a little as you go over a wave so that it shoots you even higher up into the air. And give momma a mini heart-attack each time waiting for you to 'return safely to earth'. :)
Of course this didn't capture the beauty in the sky this evening... but man it was a sweet ending to the day.
And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years..."
