Funkin'

I think Joss and his little way of saying "Vulcan" ('Funkin') that I mentioned on the last post came at the perfect time. I've been saying for the past two weeks or so that I just feel like I'm in a FUNK. So that has taken a turn to "Funkin'". Sounds a lot more exciting to be Funkin' than it feels. But it at least puts a smile on my face to hear Joss say it or think of him saying it.
I would like to send out some personal thank-you's to my mom and Laura O. for helping me to get out of it. I still haven't been able to pin-point the problem completely (I'm sure it's a combo of things), but the funk has started to lift. You both said some encouraging things to me that have helped more than you'll know. Some days we just need a little extra TLC I guess from someone other than our husbands and kiddos... and you guys were that for me--THANKS :)
The boys have started playing together so nicely these days. Joss will run up to Emit and try to get him to chase him and they'll just run around and around the kitchen and living room chasing each other and laughing. It's the cutest thing... and the other day they did it down on the beach with lots more space to run. Emit likes to go up behind us and "push" us to give us a boost to run, and Joss gets to laughing so hard when Emit does this to him.
While exploring in the yard the other day we found the (pretty big) hermit crab perched in a tree of all places. Joss wanted to sit right by him and play with him, but he didn't really want to touch him. I'll admit that when I was carrying him to the porch to play with him I dropped him a few times when he'd stretch his little claws out trying to get down...I got the crab doing this to Emit on video= :( and LOL He wasn't happy, but it was pretty funny too!
By the way, Joss wanted to dress himself on this morning (boots and all)! :)
With the hurricanes brewing out there (check here to see how things have been with that) we have had a break from the scorching heat and humidity. It's still been very hot, but we've had a few windy days that have been really pleasant to be outside for more than a minute or two. The other morning we were playing in the yard (and with the crab) waiting for Dallas parent's to get here for their visit, and we decided to walk to the end of the road that leads to our house (to the main road) and watch for them. I pulled the boys in the wagon. When we got down there Joss decided he wanted to get some cars to honk at us, and that was the game for a bit. We even saw a BIG BUS drive by, but they didn't honk. I can only imagine what some of the folks were thinking when they were driving by and saw me sitting beside the boys in their wagon, the boys in the wagon and Joss' little arm pumping up and down so fast trying to get them to honk. Some looks told us what they were thinking... but I think we put a few smiles on some faces that morning :)
We headed out in the boat a bit today to try to get a look at some of the waves on the ocean side of Stocking  Island (where we would see the biggest swells coming in). It was relatively calm in the harbor considering the water on the other side was raging. The boys (we went out with Ann Ligon & Mason & Hagen as well) had a great time when we passed this big boat with a "Mighty Machine" on it. Joss had the cutest look on his face of pure aww.
I was able to snap two pictures when we got over to this gorgeous beach on Stocking Island and then my battery decided to die on me--UGH. I was so frustrated. I know I'm not the world's most talented photographer or anything, but I could have gotten some really cool shots of the waves over there today. I was so sad. The boys were pretty stunned by the noise and size of the waves too. Don't worry, we didn't go down much further from this grass lines. The swells were coming almost all the way up there.
As I mentioned earlier, Dallas' folks, Nana & Papa, came to spend a couple days with us. Note: It's always interesting spending time with the "In-Laws" :) I always learn more and more about swimming, for starters, and it is always a reminder of how very different families can be. It feels like Dallas and I have always known each other and have always been together, but spending time with them just reminds me of the fact that we haven't, and some day we'll be driving our kids nuts. :) They will be flying out tomorrow and then my folks fly in on Sunday (Lord willing with no delays) to help us celebrate Emit's 1st Birthday (Sept 4th). It's nice to have visitors this time of year while things are slow (because of the hurricane possibility like we are seeing now).
I feel like I'm all over the place with this post... but oh well :) it's over now!

I think you take good pictures. You are so lucky to have beautiful surroundings all the time! I have funks like that too, but I had a CONSTANT one when my thyroid levels were off. That was really hard. I didn't want to blame everything on it, but it really was the problem.

They are just so cute!!! Love the boys chasing after each other on the beach. That's a big hermit crab - hope no fingers got pinched!!! It's ok to have "funkin" kinda days - but even better to come through them and shake it off :0)

We are in the, "are we there yet?" mode - see you soon...

Love ya, Mom
