High Flying Adventures

In the event that I don't catch it in 'later' years...the title of this one is also a title from one of the boys favorite shows when they were a little younger, The Backyardigans :) They still thoroughly enjoy it from time to time. And I think now when they watch them it is almost like watching them for the very first time because they are able to pick up on so many more things now.
MONKEY!!!!! The names of 'Po' and 'Mo' for Hippo and Monkey never really caught on. When they were babies and could barely talk they would say those, but this is MONKEY & HIPPO here. You've seen Hippo around from day one with Joss. He has always been a fan of Hippo. Emit has just recently, the last couple of months, started really asking for Monkey at night and looking for him all the time.
I love it! I think it is priceless. This is coming from the girl that couldn't bear the thought of parting with her beloved stuffed animals when heading off for college, so I didn't leave ANY behind...they all went with me! I've always had stuffed animals around, so I love seeing the boys have theirs too.
And we have very unique names, but I also think that is pretty cute. They call them Hippo, Monkey, and then our other two favorites are Bear & Frog. Bear and Frog don't get to tag along as much because they are jumbo sizes and they are bed buddies.
Joss is teaching Hippo how to do some tricks in his favorite tree, while wearing the empty Sonic backpack, of course.
I am still performing surgeries on Hippo. Not as many as before, we've reinforced most of the seams by now :) However, a couple weeks back Joss was playing with him, and by playing I mean holding him by his lead and swinging/yanking him back and forth. On one of the 'backs' Hippo went flying away from him and never came 'forth'. Joss was broken-hearted. He had ripped Hippo's leg off. He came running to me terrified that we wouldn't be able to fix it and felt so bad and was crying so hard. I reassured him I could, but that he did need to be a little more gentle. Needless to say, after Hippo's 'sugery' Joss was very tender and apologetic to his fuzzy BFF.
Emit and Monkey in their favorite tree!
Emit likes this one because he can actually climb in it. He has 'slipped' a time or two and yelled out in fear like he was 10 stories off the ground. After I run to the rescue and save him from his 3 INCH drop, he is immediately relieved and back at it.
Now, on to the High Flying Adventures of the post...
Our visit to the airport to see the PLANES!!!
A friend of ours tagged us in a photo on FB because a pilot friend of hers from one of these planes was coming through Exuma on his way to an air show in the Dominican Republic.
I messaged the guy to see if they were still at the airport and he told me they were coming back through and when they expected to be at our airport. We headed there when they planned to be in and got there just in time to see a few coming in. They were doing cool flips and spins and dives in the planes just before they landed. They boys were going nuts!
We were watching from the back of our truck trying to look over the fence to the planes and then we decided to just go and ask the private charter airport right next to ours if it would be possible to get a little closer. They were so sweet and very accommodating for our little field trip
Dallas and I had death grips on the boys because I didn't want us to do anything to give them an excuse to not let us go out by the planes.
They girl took us all the way out on the tarmac and we were able to talk to the pilots.
I never actually got to talk to the guy that I had talked to on Facebook, and later we found out that we just missed each other somehow b/c we were there at the same time.
Aren't they cute little planes?
This double decker (I'm sure that's not the proper term) plane below is the classic of the bunch and took almost twice as long to travel the distance as the other planes. It was SO loud when it was running and flying--holy smokes! There's something about it that makes me think of Bert & Ernie flying high above a corn field looking for Big Bird, anyone??!!?? :)
Joss looks so grown to me in these!
This is one day that Monkey was not going to be too far from Emit :) He wanted him to touch the plane above.
This purple one below changed colors as the light hit it differently. It was green or purple.. and pretty sleek.
Momma and her crazy boys :)
This was my favorite plane below. The pilot for this one was a female about my age too, so that was pretty neat.
These white ones below were pretty sweet too! I'm sure their stunts would be pretty fun to watch.
Big Daddy getting ready to take off before all the others--he needs to get a head start. The boys had their hands over their ears at this point.
Then we got to see all the other planes lining up to take off.
They all pulled off here and had to wait for the big plane to take-off, but then they all rolled out and took off at the same time. Right beside each other.
And to TOP it off, we got to ride back to the office in the golf cart!!!!!!!! What an outing!
Thank You Odyssey Aviation! Man, I wish I was able to fly in and out of this little airport every time I flew.
