We've been trying to think of a way to share how our church group that meets at the Morton's house goes on Sundays, so I'm going to try to share the experience on here. For anyone reading this considering coming to our little group, we LOVE having guests and visitors are always welcome. We are a small group, but we hope that anyone that comes feels welcome and most importantly we pray that you feel the presence of the Lord in our service.
| The setup has changed a little since I took this photo, but not much! |
Our group started (back in 2011) when a few of our families all realized that we were all watching church online and we decided to get together to watch ChurchOnline (http://www.lifechurch.tv/) together as a group. We meet at our friends, Joel & Ann Ligon Morton's house each Sunday morning. We start at 9:30am. And our services look a little something like this (we did this exact service today).
We give everyone a few minutes to get in and get settled. It always takes a few minutes for our kids to settle down. They live right next to the Morton kids, but every Sunday morning when they 'reunite' you would think it has been months since they have seen each other. Between kids and dogs it is quite the Welcome Party!
Folks get coffee, tea, sometimes we have muffins or breads, grab a seat on a couch, on the floor, on chairs at the kitchen table (the more crowded, the more we like it!). Someone opens us up with a prayer of thanksgiving for allowing us all to meet once again, and prays over our time of fellowship and teaching. We then sing some songs. We don't have anyone yet that feels led to lead our group with live instruments or singing, so we do our own praise sets with favorite songs of ours. I put the praise songs to photos, usually of Exuma, because for me, pretty photos enhance the music and the glory of God that we are trying to connect with on a whole new level.
We sang this praise set this morning:
After we sing, we say a prayer over the kids as someone takes them down to the beach (a short walk away from the house) for a Sunday School lesson.
Then we watch our sermon from our pastor, Craig Groeschel, who leads the LifeChurch.tv campuses all around the world. We continued our series called Friending with the 3rd part. This week was called One Community Away. You can watch what we watched here: http://www.lifechurch.tv/watch/friending/3
After the message we sang one more song to close out the service. This week's closing song was:
When our song is finished we pray, sometimes over specific people if we know of someone in need, sometimes we pray over each other, our group, our community, or we just offer up another prayer of thanksgiving for the freedom we are so thankful to have to meet and worship in our homes with no fear of being persecuted for openly believing in our AWESOME GOD!
Afterwards we always grab a few more hugs and visit for a few minutes before going our separate ways. Next week, we will be having a little lunch fellowship in the driveway between our two homes. If you're looking for a place to worship in Exuma, please come out and join us!
That's us, LifeChurch Exuma, in a nutshell! If you have any questions, please let us know. Hope to see you around!
