O. M. G-reenheart Project

This project had me singing the old Animaniacs song over and over again "This is the {project} that never ends, yes it goes on and on my friends..."
Seriously though, DANG it took me forever. I had started talking plans with them in the fall/winter and told them I wouldn't be able to get started until the summer. Then I headed off the island in June and asked them if they would prefer for someone else to do it. They said they still wanted me to (probably because they knew I was a bargain) but I didn't get back until August, and they were wanting it done. I worked my butt off and it took so long, but I was pretty happy with the result.

I got to use a router for the first time on this project, so it is always fun to learn a new tool. This one had to be very precise too.  I waited an extra 3 weeks to work on adding the beaded edge because this router bit was 1/16" off the size they wanted to use. Crazy... I laughed really hard over this because it was just the icing on to top of the month or so of issues I had encountered with this project.
This piece above was the corner cabinet for the kitchen. They gave me a drawing with some measurements on it, and that was what I worked with. I think that is probably know that is a big reason why it took me so long because every step I took I had to figure it out and do the math and make-up my game plan as I went. Some days my math was better than others, and some days one step became 5 or 6 (repair and repeat).
They ordered the drawer boxes and had them built and shipped in, so that helped a ton. I gave them a heads up in the beginning that drawers were still tricky for me. So even though my frames were a little off-perfect, the pre-constructed drawers came in very handy and saved me a ton of time. Don't you just love my little helper?? :)
All of these pieces were for their kitchen. They weren't perfect, but they were a one-of-a-kind and gave them the 'rustic' feel they were going for in their home (below)....at least I hope they were happy. It's always hard to tell if people are really happy or not with the hard work you've done for them.
Moving these pieces off my porch, where I built them, to the house became quite the obstacle.
1) The truck needed to be big enough to carry this corner piece. I had planned to reassemble them on site, but the further I got with it, the more permanent things had to be secured.
2) The truck had to be strong enough. This Greenheart is some heavy stuff, and assembled, this thing took about 6 men to move off the porch.
3) The truck needed to be small & tough enough to drive up their awful driveway.
On a little island, options are limited, so this is what was our solution. The handymen in the back were the tipper for me.
Needless to say I covered this piece in prayer all the way to the house. If it broke after they got it there, too bad, but I didn't want it to break before. Everything made it where it was supposed to go, and then it got painted.....I love the white with the concrete counter-tops, but I also really loved the wood textures and tones. It's always a tough choice for me to paint or stain...but I think it turned out pretty well.
The best part was....it was FINISHED!!!!!! For better or worse it was at their house and not mine :)
