September 4th 2009!!! What a day, what a day. I still have some very real and vivid memories of that time. Many that I have not blogged about, and will not, because I'm hoping they will soon fade away and be forgotten and the only thing I will remember is EMIT!!!!!!
Gracious I could just squeeze this little man... why on earth do they have to grow and change so fast!
What a treasure he is! I still remember when Dallas and I found out we were pregnant with him. We were both so excited and both so terrified at the same time; "Is it too soon to have another one? Will Joss think we don't love him enough? Will we have the time to give both babies the attention they need? Will this...will that..the list goes on. I'm sure many parents with one, two, or eight kids feel the same way. And I know this...our lives would not be the same without our sweet, crazy, spunky little Emit!
He is a riot these days. There's always something really funny that he's doing to crack us up. He's saying some of the cutest things. Well, honestly, he's talking in full out sentences. They may take a little deciphering from the pros (mom, dad or even Joss), but this little guy can TALK. He impressed the heck out of me the other day talking about a VOLCANO (he had seen it on a cartoon), but STILL... that's a tricky word and he was telling me how it was, 'hot, fire on the animals and on the train'.
One of my all time favorites right now is his version of 'helicopter'. We see them flying around down here a lot. He calls them 'HUGGA DUGGA's' :) Isn't that sweet!? I just love it. Kind of like Joss' way of saying trailer, which was 'cha-way' that we still use. Those are words I never want them to outgrow.
Emit is always wanting to 'Come you, mommy!' And when we were visiting my folks last month it was 'Come you, CC's!' Or 'Come us' if he wants someone to come with us. He hasn't outgrown his 'what's that?' questions at all...if anything, he's asked more and more. And any old answer to get him to quit asking won't suffice. But if you take the time to give him a straight-up answer and tell him what something is, he'll look at you with the total focus and concentration the original question was given with and simple say, "Oohhhhh" or "Okay". Then that's it, on to the next thing...
But if you try to sort of blow him off...not trying to be mean to my little guy, but after 50 questions and answers in a row...momma needs a break every now and then, BUT if you try to blow him off with a quick reply, it just won't work and he'll keep on asking until you give him an answer he approves of. I love this about him. It is infuriating at times when I need some quiet, but I love his persistence.
One thing that I can see that I will have to work a little differently with Emit than with Joss is when he's working with something he can't quite figure out. Emit gets so frustrated so quickly, to the point of little fits and crying if for instance he can't get a square peg to fit through a round hole. Once I go over to him, take him by the hand and physically show him how to do it, he calms down and gets really excited. But I can't go over to him and just do it for him, or just try to verbally explain it to him...it's all out hands-on, or bust! It will be interesting to see this at work in a 'classroom' when homeschooling starts for him.
We've entered the tattle tale stage it seems. Joss is very quick to point out any injustice that Emit has dished out, and Emit is even quicker to say 'Jossy hit me' or 'Jossy take toy away'. The trick is going to be teaching them to tell the truth and not just whatever it takes for mommy to give them their way. Oh boy :) This will let me put my Criminology degree to use a bit and play detective on our little 'crime scenes'!
Today was a very low key birthday. We had another party/fun day back in Alabama with the family that I will post when I get to it in order of my catching up posts :) Today Emit woke up to a house full of balloons! We blew up over 120 balloons and had them all over the floor when he came out. Needless to say, it didn't take him long to 'wake up' this morning. We played in the balloons most the morning and then we tried a new church (one we worked out with the Vacation Bible School a few weeks back). After some late naps we spent the afternoon opening a few more presents and eating some yummy cake.
It took us a few attempts at lighting the candle before Emit left the flame long enough for me to put the lighter away. He mastered the art of blowing it out very quickly and just couldn't wait. I finally asked him to wait long enough for us to sing his special birthday song. We sang it, with Joss' help of course and then he blew out his candle. Then he said, "sing song again and blow out!" :) He was going to leave it lit long enough for us to sing again this time.
He and Joss both seemed excited and happy with the b-day cake. I saw this rainbow (you can see the colors on the shot below) one a while ago on Pinterest
Emit's second birthday was a success! Simple, sweet, success. Thank you all who helped make it special. The party back in Bama, the phone calls, the messages on Facebook... THANK YOU! :)
WE LOVE YOU, EMIT!!!!!
