Our weekend at the Barretarre Regatta was wonderful! It felt like a mini vacation. There is a new island with PIGS on it now... much closer to us too, so we had to stop by and introduce ourselves :)
Not a bad pigpen huh?
After our pit-stop at the pigs we hit the race grounds. We were told races would get going around 11am. I'm pretty sure they didn't get started until around 2:30pm.
Other methods of entertainment were in order...
They were putting on quite the show for everyone setting up their boats and booths.
And if they would have had anything to do with it, the race buoys would have magically disappeared.
They got hot...time for a swim...
They were having fun checking out all the boats (disclosure: there was NO traffic coming in and out of the area they were swimming and I was keeping a close watch nearby). Emit's favorite was the red striped speed boat, of course.
The guys headed out to test their sails and the wind and their turns, etc.
I feel more comfortable letting my kids run in open spaces on a little island than around docks with sharp things, boats with bad smells and people with fowl mouths...I know, I know, it's hard to fathom isn't it ;)
We had a boat full again for the race, and with that crowd comes lots of kiddos. Over to the blow hole we go...
I was making a pretty big deal about the blow hole and how cool it was, and I'm pretty sure as we were pulling up I heard Caleb say something to the effect of, 'oh wow another beach how exciting'. I'm pretty sure I rolled my eyes, then as we're pulling up the blow hole shot up in the air and all the kids yelled in excitement.
Needless to say, they were entertained for quite some time...ALL of them!
It was so funny to hear all the 'things' they were imagining going on down in the hole.
A monster that got full on all the rocks and sand they threw in and exploded...a ticking bomb...all kinds of fun and imaginative things.
I got a little picture happy here, in case you can't tell.
Sticky note time:
If Emit finds a random piece of paper, bottle cap, card, recipe, anything along those lines, it immediately becomes a map, usually a treasure map, but something leading to somewhere really cool!
So I went a little camera crazy with the spray from the blow hole, so enjoy...
There is a fun little gap between the cays and it makes a sweet tide pool with fun waves. It is a nearly perfect 'kiddie pool', and way cleaner than anything you'd find in a water park!
Anticipation...
Bliss...
Still scared of the Rock Monster!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhh Watch Out :)
