Considering I have about 4 different cameras or memory cards to upload from time to time, some pictures get lost in the shuffle. Especially when I get months behind like now. This first collage was back before the chaos cruise, but they got left off of that post.
The one where the boys and I are huddled on the boat and my mom is in the water was the day we got caught out in some heavy rain on the boat. The boys and I were about to freeze. It felt good to my mom...for a bit, then I'm pretty sure she got a little chilly too on the ride home. We had a final dinner at the Exuma Beach Resort on her last night. This already seems like a lifetime ago.... so thankful I have a happy report to give on her, but I'll get to that :)
These two collages were from our first couple of days in Eleuthera that I found on our GoPro camera.We all went for a drift/kayak along the 'southside' (I think) of the island. We got some of the guys working with Camp Bahamas to drop us and the gear off a short distance from the driveway to the camp, and then we swam and kayaked down the shoreline and they came and picked us up afterward.
My boys were doing some awesome snorkeling and diving this day. We were in 'shallow-ish' water and Joss felt like such a big boy diving down and picking stuff up and swimming along with me. Emit did too, but he was pretty content to be kayaking with Erin too.
Do you see this really odd fish just above?? This is called a Batfish. I spotted it and then just stared at it for a few minutes trying to figure out what kind of trick my eyes were playing on me. It didn't move, so I swam down for a closer inspection. And then it started to....HOP away, not swim or crawl, but literally hop like a frog. It was the craziest this. It has this little rhino horn type thing on its nose and then all these extra fins and legs. I was thinking to myself, "this is why some folks believe in evolution..right here." After Elliott braved picking it up in a hat, and we saw that it wasn't going to totally freak out on us and turn into some kind of real monster, I had to pick the thing up myself. SO SO SO Crazy!!!
The boys and I took a nice little paddle over to a little island close to the camp while Daddy and the men went spearing. I want to sing Chris Farley's "Fat Guy in a Little {Boat}" song, but none of them are fat by any means... so don't take it personally gents :) Just a tiny little boat for all you men.
My big helpers kayaked and paddled us most of the way to the other beach. We landed and found the entire beach covered in those tiny little crabs scurrying all over the place. They also found a few birds to track and spy on around the beach. Fun and peaceful and therapeutic outing for this momma that was on an emotional roller coaster this week.
Now I'm caught back up to where I left off on the post before this. The one day that we toured a big chunk of the island of Eleuthera, we still only went as far north as Harbour Island. There was still quite a bit of the island we didn't get to. We took this water taxi across the harbour to the busy and tiny little island. Side note: Only when I'm referring to 'harbors' in the Bahamas do I spell it with a 'U'. For some reason I just can't not spell it that way down here. For what it's worth :)
{Joss thought it would be a good idea to grab up a lemon slice off the table at lunch and take a bite...he didn't like it!}
Harbour Island surprised the heck out of me! The homes were lovely, and I immediately was drooling over that aspect and wishing that more of the Exuma homes were built like these--so much character to them. The amount of people was the biggest "HOLY COW" moment to me. When I heard that it was all golf cart transport, I imagined it a little more like Staniel Cay, with two or three streets and the whole thing takes you about 10 minutes to drive around. Now way, there were hundreds of golf carts zipping around. Some were even 'souped-up' ones that were Hummer versions or Jeep versions or Stretch versions... the boys were constantly picking out their favorites.
This house that Andy & Nancy are standing in front of is where Andy's mother, we all call her Muh, was born in. Isn't it an adorable little house? I definitely have a mother perspective now when I look at any homes or cars or things like this. It wasn't always there before. I see the fun little trees to climb in there in the yard, the safe fence around it, the green grass to roll around in and all sorts of fun that you could have there with little ones :)
We packed out two golf carts with our group. We had to jump out and push a few times going up the hills... but it was still fun!
We had to stop over at the Pink Sand Beach which stretched the entire coast this side of the island. They had horseback riding too---- oh I wish I wish I wish we could have done that... but we weren't near that part, and I honestly wouldn't have been interested in dishing out the cash--THIS TIME :)
They had a sand castle building that the boys thought was really cool. I had fun playing with the boys in the waves...just had to make sure my little guys didn't get sucked away from me. We found this little puffer fish that had been washed up during the tide (we're assuming) and had died on the beach. Poor little guy.
And there they are...my handsome little fellas!! I love these crazy, wild, spunky, adventurous, adorable, sweet little dudes.
